To proceed with the history of the New Institute, the School began its scholastic year in 1875 in right earnest with Sisters Angela and Philomena and a Postulant Pagadala Anthoniamma (Sellampattida- 10 km away from Kilachery) forming the complete staff of the school. Anthoniamma was admitted into the Boarding in 1869, at the age of II.

By her good behaviour she endeared herself to her superiors. Sister Philomena did not survive long. She died on 15-11-1875 after a month of severe illness which she bore with exemplary patience, in the 40th year of her age and was buried in the Church compound of Kilachery. She was the first among the members of the Congregation to die.

The Novitiate at Kilachery was started on 12th December 1875. Pagadala Anthoniamma was the first to enter the Novitiate and took the name of Joseph. Though young, she was tactful, prudent, foreseeing and resourceful. Sister Angela, finding her health deteriorating, appointed Sister Joseph in her place as Headmistress of the Convent School and entrusted to her all the temporal management of the Convent. Sister Joseph carried out these duties to the entire satisfaction of Sister Angela and Fr. Ignatius, the Director of the Congregation.

Sister Angela’s health deteriorated still further and as a result of some serious abdominal disorder, she went to her eternal reward on the 4th, March 1876, at the early age of 25. She was buried in the Church compound, close to Sister Philomena. On the death of Sister Angela, the whole burden of the management of the Convent fell on the young shoulders of Sister Joseph who took up the task courageously. She was appointed the head of the Congregation and for some time she was its only living member.
